How to promote a positive mindset if you’ve lost your job during the coronavirus pandemic

Becoming unemployed can be a very stressful event in one’s life, more so now when stress is already at a high due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The corona virus is something beyond our control, but how we react to it is entirely in our hands. The virus being a worldwide problem has shaken the economy and the chances of getting a new job anytime soon are slim. Adding to these fears is the fear of falling sick, the anxiety of not being able to provide for your family. All this stress could actually affect your mental balance making coping difficult.

Well, let me tell you something. You still have many things to be grateful for. By being grateful you will keep yourself in a positive vibration and ready to receive any relief that the universe is likely to send your way. You should be grateful for your good health- you have got struck down with Covid the way so many have. Be grateful that you have a roof over your head. During the lockdowns there have been so many that had to search for shelters because they had no home to go to. Think of all those that have been hungry through the last few days, weeks and months due to the terrible situation. There is yet another important reason that you should consider- you are alive. Your life is the greatest gift. Anxiety and stress are a sign of life. Much like a boxer who has been knocked down- he is out only as long as he doesn’t rise to continue the fight. We humans are resilient beings with an innate ability to bounce back. Take a break, lick your wounds and then look out for what your destiny is calling you to do. Here are few tips to keep a positive mind set in the worst of your situations:

  • Shower yourself with kindness
You have not lost your job because you were bad at your work. It’s not like you’ve failed at any responsibility assigned to you. Also, you are not the only person that this has happened to. You are much more than your job; remember that unemployment is something temporary.
  • Stay connected with family, friends, colleagues and professionals.
Be open to new ideas. If you have an open mind you may be surprised with what you can do with your new found free time. One must recognise the need for social connection in these times. Communicating with people not only helps in receiving comfort and sympathy, but more importantly keeps your mind occupied. There is no harm in indulging a little extra in the virtual world for communicating on platforms like Zoom, Skype, Facebook and Instagram. If possible join groups and talk to people who are in a similar position to yours. If you’d like to get your hands on some serious mentoring that brings out your hidden gems to the surface you could even consider a One-On-One Mentoring journey with me.
  • Exercise regularly
It is very essential to stay fit during this pandemic. Exercise helps you stay fit physically and this will help you build your immunity besides also fighting the coronavirus. Exercise will keep you mentally strong and reduce the levels of stress and anxiety that knocks on your mind especially during these days in isolation. If you’d like to take it a step further you can be a part of my fitness program you are the sculptor of your life .
  • Look for re-skilling areas
Although there might be a freeze on jobs in many companies, there are several other companies that will be looking at hiring people with specific skill sets sometime soon. Identify all the skill sets that you possess and either look at getting better at them or consider learning something new. The internet is filled with online courses that will be great resources for your professional career.

It is very important to be focused during these times. Take care of yourself mentally and physically during this pandemic. Strongly affirm to yourself that you will find a way to stay positive through all of this.

I assure you that if you hang in there and take advantage of all the courses ( free or paid) available to you, you will bounce back stronger than ever before. 5 years down the road and you could be grateful that you lost your job to Covid! But you must work on yourself to get the great results you are capable of getting.

If you are not willing to learn no one can help you but if you are willing, eager and determined to learn no one can stop you!
